I'm too depressed, angry and tired to put a proper article up at the moment, so I thought I'd just cut and paste a few bits I've been posting on message boards around the internet recently. I feel an overwhelming sense of despair with the situation, and don't have the vocabulary to adequately express my utter contempt at the contempt the government have for us. 


I wonder whether one of the reasons our govt's response to this virus has been so unbelievably appalling is that for 40 or so years many decisions have been made by the EU, not us. Maybe we just got flabby - a muscle that isn't worked wastes away.

Just a theory, but you never know.




I still think leaving the EU is a good thing, but little did I suspect that this govt would prove to be incompetent beyond belief, in this instance in its handling of Covid.

It makes me worry how on earth they are going to cope with any future crises we encounter. Yes Boris Johnson is a shape-shifting know-nothing, but the rest of the Cabinet all appear to be equally dreadful - and don't get me started on the civil service or govt advisers.




I suspect that these lockdowns are in large part supported by those who have never really lived and by those who have, but don't any more and are envious of those who can still while they can't (I define 'live' as PROPERLY living, going out and doing things, meeting people, exploring, having enriching new experiences etc).

Govt pushes unemployment into the future in a forlorn hope of saving jobs.

Both are crazy short term strategies. Both cost the country dear and smash people's minds. Both display cowardice and lack of wisdom.

But what else do you expect when you see who the PM is?




Johnson is such a bare-faced liar it beggars belief. Lockdown will end early December he says, while at the same time extending furlough to March.

Does the bloated buffoon not realise we can see through his mendacity like we can see through a window pane?




My blood reaches boiling point when I hear (or rather 'read' - I am unable to watch a single second of the evil clown speaking on TV) Johnson talk about protecting the NHS.

YOU'VE HAD EIGHT MONTHS TO GET THE NHS IN GOOD SHAPE FOR WHAT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A SURGE IN RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS IN THE AUTUMN (especially since we have developed less immunity than we otherwise would, because of all the restrictions of earlier months). 

How much cheaper would that have been than shutting down most economic activity?! How much better would that have been for our mental and physical health than creating a country where there's nothing to do and nowhere to go?!

Jeez, this is just off the scale madness. HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT SEE HOW INSANE THIS ALL IS?!!!



Lockdowns are the cruellest thing ever - the isolation and loneliness they cause. When you remember that they were an idea copied from China it becomes clear why they are so callous.



They love putting new restrictions in. They're not so fast to take them away.

This is the sign of a power-crazed government, as they usually are.



The only lay-offs my company has made (so far) have been: some cleaners; some security staff; the staff in the deli.

So basically all those at the 'bottom'. It's the working class that is getting hammered by this. Those damned WFH/Zoom/sourdough bread types don't have a clue about the suffering of those less fortunate than themselves, and don't give a damn.

Makes my blood boil.



The young have been sacrificed to save the old.

The poor have been sacrificed to save the rich.

The private sector has been sacrificed to save the public sector.

The future has been sacrificed to save the present.

And that's if you presume there's actually been any 'saving' at all - we're all up the creek in the long run.

How many Covid deaths get reported in the media


Things the government doesn't give a damn about:

Deaths from cancer

Mental health collapse

Deaths from strokes

Mass unemployment

Education

Deaths from heart conditions

Domestic abuse

Suicide

Alcoholism

People enjoying human contact with family and friends if that is what they want

Giving future generations piles of debt to pay down

The travel industry

The hospitality industry

Small businesses who have lost everything - in fact anything that isn't the public sector

Cost-benefit analysis, rationality, reason, sense of proportion, long-term thinking

BASIC HUMANITY

Postcard from Montenegro

Seeing that my country, the UK, has become one where a school teacher is forced to apologise for saying “Good afternoon, girls” to a class of girls, a boy accidentally scuffing a Koran necessitates the need for a press conference involving the police and local ‘faith leaders’, and citizens have their bank accounts closed if their views happen not to align with left-wing dogma, I figure it’s time to go abroad again, this time to Montenegro, one of the seven countries formerly known as Yugoslavia (six, if you don’t count Kosovo).
