Lockdowns and the decline of Western civilisation

If there was any doubt before, it’s very clear now that the 21st century will be China’s. Faced with an Eastern virus that our forebears would have shrugged off, the West has immiserated itself in such an extraordinary manner that Chinese officials must have fainted in delighted disbelief. It has presumably got to the stage where, although they were initially rather pleased to see their competitors on the world stage destroying their economies and societies, they now fear we have done so much financial damage to ourselves that we might not buy as many of their goods from now on. This could explain why the WHO has recently gone cooler on lockdowns, for the WHO is under the hoof of the Chinese. The direction of travel has been obvious for the last three decades or so. China’s admission to the World Trade Organization in 2001 was seen at the time as a great moment for the world, and the hope was that as China became richer, capitalism would do what it always has done, ie foster a flowerin

The hell you’re going through is thanks to the most boring people you’ve ever met

John Bonham was the drummer of Led Zeppelin and died at the age of 32 - according to the coroner’s report he had the equivalent of 40 vodka shots in his system. On one occasion he rode a motorcycle through the lobby of a Hollywood hotel; he enjoyed it so much he performed the stunt twice more on the same tour. Keith Moon was the drummer of The Who and died at the age of 32 of an overdose of heminvevrin, prescribed to combat alcoholism. His wild and eccentric behaviour was legendary, as was his liking for pranks: once he and a friend tested the durability of a pair of trousers in Marks & Spencer and pulled them apart, so each was left holding one leg. Then another associate entered the shop and said, “Are those one-legged trousers? They’re just what I’ve been looking for!” Jimi Hendrix was one of the world’s most celebrated guitarists and died at the age of 27 by choking on his own vomit while intoxicated with barbiturates. He was a serial womaniser: the late Lemmy from Motorhe

Posters of terror - updated 3/12

Image
This poster sums up all that is reprehensible about the government’s conduct this year. Just look at it. Scaremongering bleeds out of its every pore.   Look at the image: a nurse tends a sick man, her dressed for Chernobyl, him prostate and masked (and non-white of course, as per most of these public information ads). COVID-19 KILLS it screams (I'm surprised they didn't use red). Well, yes, apart from the 99.7% who survive it. And, funnily enough, cancer kills too, but HM government has chosen to put on the back burner this year. Macmillan Cancer Support estimates that 50,000 people across Britain now have cancers still undiagnosed because of Covid-related disruptions and delays to NHS check-ups, screenings and referrals during the March-to-July lockdown alone. Think how bad that is now. An additional 33,000 existing cancer patients are still waiting on potentially life-saving treatments delayed due to the bug-eyed focus on a virus whose victims will typically have months r

Wanted: a vaccine against ignorance and hysteria

With the strong possibility of some sort of workable vaccine against Covid seemingly weeks away, what I now expect to happen is that the government will fool people into thinking it is a panacea, in the same way they have fooled people into believing that the virus was on par with the bubonic plague, and that lockdowns, masks and quarantines were effective at reducing its spread. Our masters would like you to think that the danger to us was, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 without the vaccine, but with a vaccine to be about 2; this is nonsense - in reality it will have gone from maybe 6.6 to 6.5, probably not even that. Going into a crowded room and being at risk of contracting a viral infection is roughly the same in 2020 as it was in 1939, 1977 and will be in 2045, but they’re hardly going to tell you that. It’s all about the optics, and fooling easily fooled people. Political parties have been promising all sorts for years; now they are promising stopping death. Imagine all the lies o

Random thoughts 2

I'm too depressed, angry and tired to put a proper article up at the moment, so I thought I'd just cut and paste a few bits I've been posting on message boards around the internet recently. I feel an overwhelming sense of despair with the situation, and don't have the vocabulary to adequately express my utter contempt at the contempt the government have for us.  I wonder whether one of the reasons our govt's response to this virus has been so unbelievably appalling is that for 40 or so years many decisions have been made by the EU, not us. Maybe we just got flabby - a muscle that isn't worked wastes away. Just a theory, but you never know. I still think leaving the EU is a good thing, but little did I suspect that this govt would prove to be incompetent beyond belief, in this instance in its handling of Covid. It makes me worry how on earth they are going to cope with any future crises we encounter. Yes Boris Johnson is a shape-shifting know-nothing, but the res

Eight reasons why this second lockdown verges on the criminally insane

As the self-immolation of the United Kingdom continues, here's some reasons why a second lockdown makes no sense, and why this government is the worst of the worst of the worst.  Joker Johnson The new lockdown was imposed by a man who said in a televised address to the nation on 22 September: “ If we were forced into a new national lockdown, that would threaten not just jobs and livelihoods but the loving human contact on which we all depend” , and just two weeks ago attacked lockdowns for the “psychological, the emotional damage” they inflict. He described them as the “nuclear option” in July, and last month slammed Keir Starmer for supporting them. Yet he goes and does it again. Can there be any clearer sign that we are led by a man with no principles, no wisdom and no coherence? (No wonder he wouldn't speak to Andrew Neil during the last election campaign.) Rules and regulations Over the last few months the government has brought in new rules at dizzying speed, on top of on
